Job details
Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Work setting: Supermarket/grocery store. Tasks: Obtain articles for customers from shelf or stockroom. Direct customers to location of articles sought. Unpack products received by store and count, weigh or sort items. Record incoming stock. Stock shelves and display areas. Keep stock clean and in order. Price items using stamp or stickers according to price list. Fill mail or electronic orders from warehouse stock. Perform general cleaning duties (i.e. sweeping, mopping floors). Process electronic transactions using computer equipment. Provide customer service. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Tight deadlines. Handling heavy loads. Attention to detail. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Standing for extended periods. Weight handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs). Personal suitability: Client focus. Support for youths: Participates in a government or community program or initiative that supports youth employment. Offers on-the-job training tailored to youth. Offers mentorship, coaching and/or networking opportunities for youth. Provides awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for youth. Support for Indigenous people: Develops and maintains relationships with indigenous communities, indigenous-owned businesses and organizations . Provides cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers . Support for mature workers: Provides staff with awareness training to create a welcoming work environment for mature workers . Supports for visible minorities: Applies hiring policies that discourage discrimination against members of visible minorities (for example: anonymizing the hiring process, etc.). Offers mentorship programs that pair members of visible minorities with experienced employees.
