<p><strong>Community Housing Worker ? 24-Hour Housing</strong></p><p><strong>(Bargaining Unit Position)</strong></p><p></p><p>Mission Statement: Homes First Society develops and provides affordable, stable housing and support services to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Position type: </strong>Full time, Permanent</p><p><strong>Location: </strong>39 Dundalk</p><p><strong>Hours of Work:</strong><strong> </strong>Monday-Friday, 4 pm ? 12 am</p><p><strong>Start Date: </strong>ASAP</p><p><strong>Salary: </strong>$28.76 per hour</p><p><strong>Submit Resume to: </strong>ramya.rengaraman@homesfirst.on.ca</p><p></p><p><strong>Applicants must quote ?CHW-25? </strong></p><p></p><p>This position supports clients in their housing by assessing and supporting their needs and adhering to the mission statement and policies & procedures of Homes First Society.</p><p>Job Description:</p><ul><li>provide support to tenants who are facing issues of poverty, mental health, addictions, abuse, social isolation and more</li><li>resolve conflicts and intervene in and de-escalate crises</li><li>demonstrated ability to work with people with hoarding behaviours and who have mental health and addiction issues.</li><li>assist tenants with food access and preparation</li><li>use case management as a tool to support residents in meeting their goals</li><li>provide support including work readiness, basic life management skills, anger management, addiction counseling, assertive communication, setting goals, giving and receiving feedback, self-esteem, conflict resolution, problem solving and managing change</li><li>apply knowledge of group processes and dynamics</li><li>apply knowledge of rental legislation in Ontario</li><li>apply principles of Harm Reduction and respond to overdoses, including the administration of Naloxone when necessary</li><li>perform wellness checks as required</li><li>ensure the safety of tenants by monitoring access to the building, the signing-in of guests, and intervening when necessary to remove unwanted visitors</li><li>use excellent organizational and time management skills</li><li>work independently and as part of a team</li><li>communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing</li><li>regular use of online case management tools such as Pirouette and effectively document tenant issues or concerns on an ongoing basis</li><li>other duties as required.</li></ul><p></p><p>Qualifications:</p><ul><li>relevant post-secondary education or equivalent in education and experience</li><li>several years work experience working with people who are homeless, under-housed and hard to house</li><li>knowledge of supportive and subsidized housing and rental legislation in Ontario</li><li>knowledge of tenant population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices and systemic reasons for homelessness</li><li>excellent interpersonal skills</li><li>certificates in First Aid, CPR, CPI or UMAB an asset</li><li>Certificate of Completion of Homelessness Learning Hub?s <em>Harm Reduction for the Homelessness Sector</em> considered an asset</li></ul><p></p><p><em>Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required.</em></p><p><em>The successful applicant must provide a criminal record check that is satisfactory to Homes First Society</em></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong>Accommodation</strong></p><p>Homes First is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive organization.
