This role is responsible for guarding detained prisoners at the Burnaby RCMP Detachment. The Custodial Guard is assigned to a locked maximum-security area and is required to maintain surveillance over prisoners to ensure their security and welfare. Additionally, the incumbent searches and inspects cells before prisoners enter and after they leave, assists with search of or searches prisoner as requested; accompanies prisoner(s) and R.C.M.P. member(s) during prisoner transfers, requests cessation of damage to cells; verbally quells minor disturbances; maintains a prisoner log book; enters electronic data related to prisoner information; and performs minor janitorial tasks. This position also performs related work as required.Qualifications include up to high school graduation and some experience including the ability to effectively guard individuals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Custodial Guards have the ability to maintain alertness in confined areas and must be able to demonstrate the ability to act quickly, properly and calmly in emergency situations. Successful candidates will also have the ability to deal firmly and exercise discretion and diplomatically in maintaining control of the prisoners. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the work is required. Computer-related skills are an asset. A Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR/AED - Level C is required for this position, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.Pay Rate: $28.37 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)Location: Burnaby RCMP DetachmentSchedule: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and scheduled on an as needed basis.
