BBI is happy to have been awarded Canada Summer Job Grants funding for ship riggers. All positions at Bytown Brigantine Inc. support sailing adventures for youth 12-18 and open many doors for your career and personal growth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for experience maintaining and repairing a tall ship.
*Summary*
We are seeking a Rigger to join our team at Bytown Brigantine Inc. This role is essential in ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of our tall ships. As a Rigger, you will play a vital part in preparing our vessels for sailing, contributing to the enriching experiences we offer to our participants.
*Location*
Located in Ottawa Ontario, with travel to Brockville may be required during the month of May.
*Responsibilities*
Working with the Fleet Captain & Shipwright Supervisor, this person will assist with maintaining and preparing two tall ships sail training vessels along with their support vessels for the summer sailing program.
*Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:*
* Complete mechanical, carpentry, painting and other general labor tasks as directed by the Supervisor
* Prepare for various Transport Canada inspections and other sailing requirements
*Requirements*
* Experience working with traditionally rigged sail training vessels or boats in general would be an asset
* Experience with general carpentry, basic electrical, and plumbing would be an asset
* Able to work at heights on ships and in scaffolding
* Physically fit and capable of manual labour, including lifting
* Creative problem-solver with an organized methodical approach to work
* Able to work in a team and independently
* Able to work patiently, accurately, and be safety conscious
