Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Relocation costs not covered by employer. Willing to relocate. Custom ocular prosthetics laboratories. Chronic or long-term care facilities/centres. Tasks: Repair, build and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances or footwear. Design and fabricate ocular implants. Plan menus and diet for individuals or groups under direction of dietition or nutritionist. Assist in supervising personnel who prepare and serve food. Paint the iris and pupil of artificial eyes. Take body or limb measurements of patients. Advise patients in the use and care of prostheses and orthoses. Bill third party insurers. Help patients complete menus. Maintain inventories of medications and prescription records of pharmaceutical products. Assist dietitians with research in food, nutrition and food service systems. Clean and restore ocular prostheses. Advise patients on loss of depth perception. Make and modify plaster casts. Advise patients on care and use of ocular prostheses. Repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment. Consult with ophthalmologists concerning insertion of ocular prostheses. Examine and measure patients to develop working sketches of appliances. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. 3-4 people. Security and safety: Criminal record check.
