Located on the beautiful West Coast of Vancouver Island with its endless outdoor and ocean recreational opportunities, School District 84 delivers public education to approximately 350 students in the First Nations communities of Kyuquot, Oclucje, Ehatis, and Tsaxana, as well as the rural communities of Zeballos, Tahsis and Gold River. The School Board Office is located in Gold River.<p>Reporting to the Superintendent and Secretary-Treasurer, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and sustaining all human resource and labour relations processes/programs in the District including health, safety, and wellness. The title for this position will either be a Director of Instruction (Human Resources) or a Director of Human Resources as per the qualifications listed below. This District will consider hybrid (a combination of in-person and remote) work options for this position. The preferred start date is July 1, 2024 however, this is negotiable.<p>Note: School District 84 engages in preferential hiring of self-identified First Nations applicants in all positions in accordance with section 42 (Special Programs) of BCs Human Rights Code. <p>Duties/Responsibilities : Performs all employment processes regarding full-cycle recruitment and selection, labour relations (including interpretation and administration of collective agreements), grievance management, negotiations, job classifications and job description management, worker orientation, attendance and leave management;<p> Delivers job evaluation, attendance support, performance evaluation, wellness, diversity and inclusion and other District programs;<p> Manages recruitment strategy for replacement staff, including oversight of recruitment and selection process and research of best practice recruitment methods;<p> Provides advice and guidance to supervisors concerning the correct interpretation and administration of the collective agreements, routine performance management and discipline issues, and employee relations;<p> Investigates concerns regarding employee conduct, including allegations of harassment and providing advice to supervisors concerning appropriate corrective action flowing from such matters;<p> Participates in duty to accommodate, attendance support and return to work meetings;<p> Works closely with supervisors and bargaining unit representatives to resolve issues of concern in a timely and collaborative manner<p> Performs research, collects data and prepares reports on areas of the human resource functions such as attendance, recruitment, retention, engagement, and any reporting that may be required by legislation;<p> Plans, prepares and implements new and amended human resources policies and administrative procedures;<p> Participates in District senior management meetings and District-based committees;<p> Coordinates all processes required by WSBC with regard to projects and programs related to occupational disability management and WSBC claims management; <p> Travels throughout the District as needed and works some evenings and at times longer hours on short notice as needed to meet deadlines; and<p> Any other duties as required.Qualifications : For a Director of Instruction (Human Resources) candidate, a Masters degree in Educational Leadership, or an equivalent graduate degree, possession of or eligibility to possess a valid BC Teacher Certificate, and successful experience(s) in K-12 educational leadership at the school and/or district level in a public-school environment.<p> For a Director of Human Resources candidate, a relevant post-secondary degree and extensive knowledge of human resources and labour relations is essential and a minimum of five years experience in human resources and labour relations in a unionized environment<p> Possession of, in progress of obtaining, or a willingnes
