Education: Bachelor's degree. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Consulting firm. Information technology (IT) infrastructure. Tasks: Coordinate access and use of computer networks. Install web server hardware and software. Maintain, troubleshoot and administer the use of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), mainframe networks and computer workstations and peripheral equipment. Monitor the performance of computer systems and networks. Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking software and operating system software. Perform routine network start up and close down and maintain control records. Set up local area networks and connections to the Internet. Implement network traffic and security monitoring software, and optimize server performance. Supervise other technical support workers in this group. Provide business systems, network and Internet support to users in response to identified difficulties. Report on the performance of computer systems and networks.
