The Sea Lions Swim Club is an Age-Group Development team with a rich history spanning over 60 years, making it one of the oldest swim teams in Alberta. With a current membership of ~100 swimmers, the _*Sea Lions Fundamentals Lead Coach*_ will inspire and motivate swimmers to ?Be the Best They Can Be?, while focusing on a holistic development of the athletes with an emphasis on long-term enjoyment, engagement, and skill development. The coach is also expected to promote and support the Appropriate Athlete Development Model (formerly LTAD), Canadian Sport for Life Philosophy Model, and accommodate for multisport athletes involved in multiple activities throughout the season.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive swim training programs, developed with, and approved by the Head Coach to multiple groups of athletes aged 8-10. This coach may additionally be asked to assist with swimmers aged 11-18. Within the coaching team, this individual must be able to work with all other coaches in a positive manner to help deliver a program that can bring out the best in every swimmer.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* The Fundamentals Lead Coach will report to the Head Coach on all responsibilities and assigned tasks and work collaboratively with all Sea Lions staff
* Direct coaching and leadership with multiple levels of swimmers aged 8-10 in the pool. This coach will be responsible for overseeing the entire Fundamentals program (~40 athletes), with the assistance of 1-2 junior coaches
* Assist the Head Coach in developing and continual monitoring of Seasonal Training Plans for swimmers in all groups
* Assist in delivering dryland programs for swimmers of all ages
* Attend swim meets (local and travel) and assist in all aspects of planning, logistics, bookings, organization, and billing of competitions and related activities
* Lead, mentor, and assist in the development of junior/assistant coaches on deck and with their own administrative duties
* Website and PoolQ management; athlete information input and updates, meet setup, meet entries, declarations, entry submissions, troubleshooting, adding/updating posts and recaps, etc.
* Communicate on a regular basis with parents on individual and group matters, support, reminders, sign-ups, surveys, etc.
* Create, monitor, and communicate schedules for groups including training, breaks, camps, dry-land, competitions, special events, etc.
* Collaboratively work with Head Coach on the development of athlete group placement, training schedules and lane allocations, competition schedule/selection and staffing during training and competitions
* Assist Head Coach with tryouts for new Sea Lions; assess, create, and deliver feedback to tryout attendees
* Engage in planning and organizing special events such as banquets, team builders, season-kickoff and season wrap-up events
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:
* Minimum 2 years competitive or developmental swim coaching/teaching experience.
* One of the following: LSI, Learn to Swim, or Swim Teacher Certification are required.
* NCCP Swimming Level 1 Certification is considered an asset.
* Minimum 1 year Strength & Conditioning/Dryland programming experience considered an asset.
* Education in Kinesiology or related field is preferred.
* Proven success with Meet Management systems (Hytek, PoolQ, TeamUnify) is considered an asset.
* Competitive swimming background and a familiarity with Swimming Canada Programs required.
* Developed understanding of the Appropriate Athlete Development Model as it relates to swimming.
* WHMIS and First Aid with advanced CPR certification. (\*training is provided by club).
* Excellent team player, mentor, creative thinker, flexible, and must focus on engagement and fun.
