We are currently hiring for an Engineering Assistant who will play a key role within our Transportation Division for a 2-year project. This role is in the Traffic and Road Safety Section in the Transportation Division, which provides for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on Surrey?s road network in order to contribute to a sustainable and livable community. This position is within the Traffic Engineering team in the Section.Reporting to the Traffic Engineering Team Lead, the Engineering Assistant is an entry-level position that performs technical work related to managing the safe and efficient flow of traffic throughout the city. Surrey has a population of over 650,000 and continues to grow by approximately 1000 per month, leading to a rewarding and challenging transportation career with opportunities for growth within the Division.STATUSUnion - CUPE Local 402 - Project (2 Years) RESPONSIBILITIES Perform a variety of tasks related to traffic engineering analysis for all modes of transportation, including problem identification, option evaluation, report preparation, and responding to public inquiries. Perform field inspections, undertake technical assessments, and make recommendations related to signage and pavement marking installation, sightlines, road safety, traffic control, traffic calming, and traffic operation, in partnership with other City staff. Correspond and interact directly with residents regarding traffic related inquiries or concerns. Support other staff in projects such as updating the City?s traffic calming policy and processes. Support other staff in the review the design of external Consultants capital and land development projects. Performs other related duties, as required.QUALIFICATIONSThe successful candidate must:Have completion of a one-year certificate in Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution with exposure to relevant engineering work or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. Have a valid driver?s license. Be a team player who can establish and maintain effective working relationships. Possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with engineering professionals and the public. Have superior organizational and time management skills. Be proficient in Microsoft Office.
