*Job Purpose*
The primary purpose of the Land Use Planner is to strategize the optimal use of land resources for development purposes for the Nation. Working specifically with the Saulteau First Nation Land Use Plan (LUP), Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP), Economic Development Plan, Capital, Infrastructure & Strategic Plans of our Nation.
The Land Use Planner will assist and work collaboratively to implement, monitor, evaluate and continuously improve all plans, as needed. By conducting thorough research, analyzing regulations, and collaborating with stakeholders, the Land Use Planner will ensure that development projects align with legal requirements, environmental sustainability goals, and community needs.
*Duties and Responsibilities*
* Conduct research and analysis of land use regulations, zoning laws, and environmental regulations to determine feasibility of development projects.
* Prepares and submits required applications, environmental assessment reports to local, provincial, and federal agencies
* Works collaboratively with GIS, Capital, Asset Management & Housing Departments in the development of projects.
* Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other professionals to develop and implement site plans and designs.
* Review and evaluate proposals for land development projects.
* Communicate with clients, government officials, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and address concerns.
* Manage project timelines, work plans, budgets, and resources.
* Stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes in regulations
* Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings related to land use and development projects.
* Works collaboratively with legal experts, and government officials in the ATR Process of TLE/TLA, Fee Simple Lands owned by the Nation.
* Works collaboratively with the Lands Manager, LABRC, ISC, and the Nation in the developmental process of Land Code.
* Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to the LUP, CCP, Land Code, Capital & Infrastructure Plan, Environmental Management Plan, etc., as required.
*Ideal Qualifications *
* Bachelor's degree in urban planning, environmental science, or related field
* Minimum 3 years of experience in land use planning
* Experience in conducting public meetings and presenting to stakeholders.
* Valid BC Driver?s License
* Provision of an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
*Ideal Knowledge, Skills and Abilities *
* Knowledge of zoning regulations and environmental laws
* Working knowledge of legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures for the land use/environmental sector.
* Ability to conduct surveys, measure land, and create accurate drawings.
* Proficiency in GIS and other mapping software
* Comprehensive understanding of local, provincial, and federal regulations, policies and best practices related to land use and development.
* Ability to collect and analyze data, conduct interviews, and create surveys.
* Knowledge of Saulteau First Nations economic, cultural, and political environment is an asset.
* Ability to solve problems, make effective decisions, resolve conflicts, and manage time effectively.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Computer skills including the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets and word documents, use of Microsoft Word.
* Excellent interpersonal and customer services skills.
* Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize.
