<p>SUMMARY OF THE POSITION<br>Person who, without having a diploma as a Community Worker or a Social Assistance Technician and within the limits of her/his skills and training, does work that is similar in nature and related to that of a Community Worker or a Social Assistance Technician.</p><p>SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:<br>The Primary care community representative works under the supervision of Uschiniichisuu coordinator in the CMC is responsible for providing culturally sensitive health and psychosocial awareness to youth and young adults meeting them in their settings. The outreach worker will also participate and organize workshops and activities about various health topics with youths and families. Activities and workshops will be conducted in accordance to other community programs and youth needs identified with youth and families. The outreach worker will focus on building trust relationships with youth and provide them with support, solutions, resources and promote participation to traditional and land-based programming in order to address youth's mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs within the community. While working in close collaboration with frontline workers in the Uschiniichisuu department, the outreach worker will create links with community organizations to facilitate contacts and readily services for youth and families. Main activities include:</p><ul><li>Establish links and relationships with community members with emphasis on youth and young adults (youth, young adults, parents, elders?);</li><li>Act as a mentor and counsel youth to encourage social inclusion and reduce unhealthy behavior;</li><li>Develop links and maintain effective working relationships with other community services and organizations.</li><li>Maintain activity reporting and statistic monitoring;</li><li>Actively contribute and participate to meetings, trainings and evaluations; </li><li>Actively participate to specific training and mentoring provided by Public Health Uschiniichisuu (HEY).</li><li>Stationary outreach: Planning and coordinating workshops and activities for youth and conduct workshops and activities to advocate for healthy behavior with youth and their families;</li><li>Street outreach: Reach out and engage youth and at-risk youth in their setting.</li></ul><p>Education:</p><ul><li>High School Diploma;</li><li>Community health or health diploma would be an asset.</li></ul><p>Experience:</p><ul><li>2 years experience working with youth.</li></ul><p>Please note that applicants who do not have the above-mentioned requirements may be considered for this position if they possess the following requirements: * A combination of education and experience relevant to the position. </p><p>Knowledge and Abilities:</p><ul><li>Knowledge of Cree culture, traditions, and way of life;</li><li>Knowledge of social and health issues with young Cree people;</li><li>A good knowledge of community and healthcare services;</li><li>Knowledge of harm reduction approach concerning alcohol and drug abuse, addiction and dependencies;</li><li>Ability to communicate and transfer knowledge and basic life skills to youth as applied to coaching and training;</li><li>Excellent liaison, networking and advocacy skills;</li><li>Strong report writing, communication and computer skills;</li><li>Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and week-ends);</li><li>Have Autonomy, independence and adaptation abilities;</li><li>Autonomous, flexible, discrete and empathic;</li><li>Strong work ethic and being strict and respectful in regards to confidential matters.</li></ul><p>LANGUAGE* Fluent in Cree and English.</p><p>OTHER* Valid driver's license is an asset.* Requires flexible hours: according to client needs.</p>
