Indigenous Cultural Liaison Community Coordinator <p>Effective July 2, 2024 School District 71 (Comox Valley) is a progressive school district whose mission is to inspire engaged, compassionate, resilient lifelong learners and cultivate a collaborative community together. We are the largest employer in the Comox Valley with over 1800 employees providing a comprehensive educational program to approximately 10,500 students from Strong Start to Grade 12 in 14 elementary schools, 1 middle school, 1 K-9 school, 3 secondary schools, 2 alternate schools, and a provincial on-line learning school. Our annual operating budget is roughly $119 million.<p>Reporting to the District Principal of Indigenous Education, the Cultural Community Coordinator will oversee, provide support, foster relationships and Liaison with Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff members of SD71 Schools, Indigenous families, Elders, community organization and students involved in Indigenous programs; performing administrative, project work and other related duties as required.<p>Responsibilities Foster and maintain effective working relationships with the<p> Komoks First Nation, Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, local and provincial<p> Indigenous organizations<p> Provide support to Indigenous Education staff as well as<p> Indigenous staff, Teachers/Administrators of SD71 schools, Indigenous students<p> and their families <p> Identify opportunities and build community partnerships to<p> expand and maintain existing programs including the Ninoxsola Elders in<p> Residence program, Warrior Society, Indigenous Cultural Presenters, Therapeutic<p> Riding and Wellness events<p> Arrange meetings and events with a variety of participants<p> and coordinate the logistics, including facilities and catering<p> Provide accurate document management of programs to support<p> grants and community funding<p> Identify emerging issues within school sites and the<p> community and consult with Advisories and Committees <p> Participate in committee and project teams as required<p> including bi-annual reports to the Indigenous Education CouncilSkills, Attributes, and Competencies Required Post-Secondary Training in Social Work, Counselling and/or<p> related field of equivalent training and experience;<p> Successful experience in working with and supporting<p> Indigenous children and families, preferably in a school setting;<p> Demonstrated conflict management and dispute resolution<p> skills;<p> A minimum of 3 years experience planning and coordinating<p> projects and events;<p> Highly resourceful, creative and self-directed<p> High level of personal and professional integrity<p> Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples history in Canada, including<p> residential schools and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report;<p> Ability to respectfully interact and relate to the lived<p> experience of Indigenous students and their families;<p> Demonstrated ability to maintain trust-based relationships<p> and Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing;<p> Effective oral and written communication skills including the<p> ability to apply for cultural grants and complete regular reports;<p> Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of community<p> groups, school-based teams as well Indigenous and Non-Indigenous agencies,<p> staff, students and families;<p> Knowledge of geographic, relational and governance structures<p> for I
