Job details
Education: College/CEGEP. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Urban area. Community service organization. Social and family service agency. Tasks: Interview client individually, in families, or in groups, to assess their situation and problems to determine the types of services required . Supervise other social workers, paid para-professional staff, student trainees and volunteers. Perform administrative tasks. Provide counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems. Plan programs of assistance for clients. Refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services. Investigate cases of child abuse or neglect and take authorized protective action when necessary. Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals working with a client group. Advocate on client's behalf in courts or at hearings. Lobby for solutions to problems affecting client groups. Develop prevention and intervention programs to meet community needs. Pick up and deliver materials. Provide specialized programs for children, seniors and other groups. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. 3-4 people. 5-10 people. 11-15 people. 16-20 people.
