Office of the Child, Youth and Senior AdvocateIndividual Case Specialist (Vulnerable Adult Mandate)Pay Band 5Open CompetitionFredericton, Saint John, Bathurst or Dieppe The Office of the Child, Youth and Senior Advocate is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time permanent individual case advocacy position under the vulnerable adult's mandate. The Advocate maintains offices in Fredericton, Saint John, Bathurst and Dieppe, and the location of work will be determined in consultation with the chosen candidate. The Office of the Child, Youth and Senior Advocate, in accordance with the Child, Youth and Senior Advocate Act, ensures that the rights and interests of children, youth, vulnerable adults and seniors are protected in government policy, programs and services. This is done by the following means: advocating and using alternative dispute resolution processes in individual matters, conducting independent and confidential investigations into complaints regarding access to appropriate services; monitoring laws and policies to make sure they are fair, properly followed, and rights-adhering; reporting on the availability, effectiveness, responsiveness and relevance of government services in New Brunswick; and advocating for the rights and interests of children, youth, vulnerable adults and seniors in general. RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidates will report directly to the Director of Individual Case advocacy. Major responsibilities include: Support with the development of intake and triage processes for vulnerable adults, advocating for the rights and interests of vulnerable adults (aged 19-64) with a physical or mental disability) and seniors (aged 65 and over) in individual cases. Interacting with clients, their support persons, and appropriate officials as necessary. Determining if applicable policies, procedures and legislation have been followed. Determining if there is a suitable solution or action that can be taken to resolve a problem Suggesting recommendations for the Advocate to make to government when appropriate. Identifying potential systemic issues.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSThe successful candidate must have a degree or diploma in a field related to the mandate, such as, but not limited to, law, human rights, social work, gerontology, psychology, adult education, or health. Applicants will have a minimum of 2 years' experience working in services and programs offered to vulnerable adults and/or seniors. The successful candidate should have knowledge of vulnerable adult issues and seniors' issues, and community resources. Professional experience with investigative and/or quality -assurance processes, the provincial long-term care system, adult protection system, and health system will be considered an asset. Applicants should have considerable knowledge about government programs and services, and community-based organizations and agencies, especially as they relate to vulnerable adults. Candidates with an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Written and spoken competence in French and English are required.
