Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Relocation costs not covered by employer. Willing to relocate. Custom ocular prosthetics laboratories. Chronic or long-term care facilities/centres. Tasks: Assist dietitians or nutritionists plan and supervise food service operations. Design, fabricate and fit ocular prostheses and conformers. Repair, build and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances or footwear. Design and fabricate ocular implants. Design, build, fit and adjust prosthetic and orthotic appliances. Plan menus and diet for individuals or groups under direction of dietition or nutritionist. Assist in supervising personnel who prepare and serve food. Examine and measure patients to develop working sketches of appliances. Paint the iris and pupil of artificial eyes. Take body or limb measurements of patients. Advise patients in the use and care of prostheses and orthoses. Bill third party insurers. Ensure the information on prescriptions is accurate, enter client information in databases and prepare medications for clients. Help patients complete menus. Maintain inventories of medications and prescription records of pharmaceutical products. Assist dietitians with research in food, nutrition and food service systems. Clean and restore ocular prostheses. Advise patients on loss of depth perception. Make and modify plaster casts. Advise patients on care and use of ocular prostheses. Repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment. Consult with ophthalmologists concerning insertion of ocular prostheses. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. 3-4 people.
