Where to find financial assistance

While some training options are free, others can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. If you plan to take short-term courses, there are options available to help you pay for training. Explore the Canada Training Credit and the LifeLong Learning Plan, find financial support for Apprentices and verify if you’re eligible to take training while receiving Employment Insurance Benefits.

You can also find financial aid through different government programs available in every province and territory.

Other types of financial support

Many government programs offer student financial support in the forms of scholarships, grants, loans or tax credits. Each program has specific eligibility requirements.

Loans

If you're not eligible to receive financial assistance from government programs, you can consider applying for an education loan or a student line of credit from a private financial institution. Some schools and training providers may also be willing to work out a low-interest payment plan with you.

Scholarships

There are multiple schools or government scholarships available for students. They are based on merit and there are no requirements for you to pay back the funds that you were granted after you complete your program.

Grants

The Canada Student Assistance Program offers grants and loans to full-time and part-time students to help pay for their post-secondary education.

How to find financial support

To find financial support start by looking into government programs. Then, try contacting the student admissions office of the school you're applying to. Ask them about the financial aid options available for the program you're interested in. You can also verify what options are offered by your financial institution.
