Job details
Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Work site environment: Underground. Wet/damp. Noisy. Work setting: Hard rock mine. Tasks: Ensure the safety of the mine by scaling loose rock from walls and roof, drilling and installing rock bolts. Operate specialized drills to produce underground passageways. Operate the mucking loader in the process of loading a conveyor for transport. Set up and operate drills and drilling machines to produce a designated pattern of blasting holes. Support the mining advancement by extending and installing air and water pipes or operating ore loading machinery. Set up and operate mining machinery to shear coal, rock or ore from the working face. Load explosives, set fuses, and detonate explosives to produce desired blasting patterns and rock fragmentation in underground mines. Operate scooptram or load-haul-dump (LHD) machine to load and haul ore from stopes, drifts and drawpoints to ore passes. Perform routine maintenance of mining equipment. Train other workers. Mining equipment: Load-haul-dump unit (LHD). Scooptram. Loader. Specialized drills. Drilling equipment: Jack leg drill. Jumbo drill. Stoper drill. Security and safety: Criminal record check.
