Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work site environment: Noisy. Dusty. Tasks: Compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of workpieces . Inspect final products. Set up machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders. Test prototypes and production tools. Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Program CNC machine tools. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Set up and operate electrical discharge machines (EDM). Lay out, shape and assemble patterns of metal, wood, plastic and other materials from blueprints, models or templates. Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Tool and Die Maker Trade Certification. Mould Maker Trade Certification. Computer and technology knowledge: Mastercam CAD/CAM. AutoCAD. SolidWorks software. Metal mould-making experience: Blow moulds. Injection moulds. Compression moulds. Transfer moulds. Tool and die fabrication experience: Gauge blocks. Jigs and fixtures. Metal cutting, forming or bending dies. Compound or progressive transfer dies. Forging die. Extrusion dies. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Standing for extended periods. Own tools/equipment: Tools.
